About Reach & Match®

What age range is Reach & Match® designed for?

Reach & Match® is designed for children aged 18 months and above, with a primary focus on early childhood ages 2 to 6. The 40+ structured activities scale in complexity, making the system adaptable across developmental stages so children at different levels can participate in the same session at their own pace.

No, and this is one of the things that makes it different. Reach & Match® is designed for all children. It creates a shared learning environment where children with and without disabilities participate together in the same activity. No child is pulled out, given a separate task, or treated differently. Inclusion is built into the design, not added on.

Reach & Match® supports children with:

  • Vision impairment (all tiles feature both print and braille)
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Developmental delays and intellectual disability
  • Physical disabilities, including children who are floor-based or have limited mobility
  • Sensory processing differences
  • Communication and language delays
  • Mixed-ability groups in mainstream classrooms

The multisensory design — tactile, visual, auditory, and movement-based — ensures every child has a way to participate.

Yes. Reach & Match® was developed through postgraduate research in Industrial Design at Monash University. It has since been independently evaluated across multiple international contexts, including Papua New Guinea (with Save the Children and UNICEF), Thailand (with World Vision), and Hong Kong.

Evaluations have documented improvements in children’s early literacy and numeracy, cognitive and language development, motor skills, participation, and social interaction, alongside significant increases in educator confidence.

The system is grounded in and aligned with Universal Design for Learning (UDL), SDG 4: Quality Education, and globally recognised early childhood frameworks.

The Kit

What is the difference between the Inclusive Education Kit and the Reach & Match® Light?

Both kits contain the same inclusive education system, the same 40+ activities, and the same Activity Guide and digital resources. The difference is scale and intended setting.

  • Inclusive Education Kit (Large): assembles to 1.6m x 1.6m, designed for group learning in classrooms, schools, and centres, supporting multiple children simultaneously.
  • Reach & Match® Light: assembles to 1.2m x 1.2m (0.64 x 0.64m packed), designed for therapy rooms, home settings, itinerant educators, and small groups of 1 to 3 children.

Choose the Inclusive Education Kit (Large) if you are:

  • Delivering group learning in a classroom, school, or early childhood centre
  • Working with 4 or more children at once
  • Running structured whole-class inclusive routines
  • Implementing across multiple rooms or a whole-school program

Choose the Reach & Match® Light if you are:

  • A therapist (OT, speech, physio, or orientation & mobility) working with individuals or small groups
  • An itinerant or visiting educator who moves between locations

The Large Kit supports group participation for multiple children at once. Some activities allow the whole group to engage simultaneously, while others are designed for turn-taking within a shared learning space. Multiple Large Kits can be connected to create parallel learning zones, increasing the number of children participating at once. The Light Kit is recommended for 1 to 3 children in therapy or home settings.

Reach & Match® kits are manufactured to meet rigorous international child safety and material standards including EN 71 (Parts 1 to 3), ASTM F963, CPSC/CPSIA, AS/NZS ISO 8124 (Parts 1 to 3), EU REACH Regulation, and California Proposition 65.

Yes. Reach & Match® is entirely physical and requires no electricity, screens, or internet connection. This is a deliberate feature of the design. It makes the system equally effective in well-resourced urban classrooms and in rural, remote, and humanitarian settings where infrastructure is limited or unreliable.

Implementation and Use

How do I set up the kit?

Reach & Match® is as flexible as your space and your session. Use one or two mats for a small group, connect all four into a large shared space, or arrange them in a long path for movement-based activities. Every mat is double-sided — simply choose the side that suits your activity and group. Setup takes just a few minutes on any flat floor space, and the Activity Guide and digital implementation videos walk you through everything step by step.

Yes, and this is central to how Reach & Match® works. Every activity has multiple entry points so children can engage at their own level within the same group activity. A child with complex needs and a child without a disability can participate side by side in the same session, each accessing the activity in a way that suits them. Educators can scale complexity within a single session without separating the group.

Yes. Activities are aligned with early childhood curriculum frameworks and global early learning standards. The system supports curriculum integration in mainstream and specialist settings and is aligned with the Australian Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and international frameworks including SDG 4.

Yes. Reach & Match® is widely used within occupational therapy, speech pathology, physiotherapy, and orientation and mobility sessions. The structured activities support therapeutic goals around sensory processing, motor development, communication, spatial awareness, and pre-braille readiness. Many therapists recommend the Light Kit for home use between sessions to maintain consistency and reinforce progress.

Yes. The Reach & Match® Light is specifically suited to home use. Parents use it to support their child’s development between therapy sessions, reinforce learning from school, and create structured play experiences at home. The Activity Guide and digital videos support confident independent use, and no prior training is required.

Training

Is training required to use Reach & Match®?

No. The kit includes everything you need to begin independently, including the Activity Guide, digital lesson plans, and implementation videos. Many educators, therapists, and families use it confidently from day one without formal training.

That said, professional training is strongly recommended for services wanting to embed inclusive practice consistently, adapt activities for complex needs, or scale implementation across multiple staff or sites. Training significantly increases educator confidence and long-term outcomes for children.

Training is available in three formats:

  • Online (live) — a 3-hour guided implementation session delivered via video call, suitable for individuals and teams anywhere in the world
  • In-person — hands-on training delivered at your service or location, including live modelling, guided practice, and time with children. In Victoria, a standard 3-hour session is available. For other Australian states and international delivery, session length and structure are flexible depending on your organisation’s needs.
  • Blended and train-the-trainer — combines live training with follow-up support and builds internal facilitation capacity within your organisation, enabling your team to train others independently

The train-the-trainer model enables organisations to build internal facilitation capacity, where trained practitioners deliver Reach & Match® training to other staff within their organisation or network. This model has been specifically implemented with humanitarian partners including Save the Children, Plan International, and World Vision.

For most education and therapy settings, Reach & Match® offers professional development training equipping educators, therapists, and community workers to use the program confidently. Contact us to discuss which model best suits your organisation’s needs and context.

Training is delivered by Mandy Lau, founder and designer of Reach & Match®, and trained Reach & Match® facilitators with experience in inclusive education, early childhood professional learning, and disability inclusion.

Yes. Training is designed for educators, therapists, early intervention specialists, NGO program staff, community facilitators, and parents. No prerequisite qualifications are required. If you work with young children and want to support their participation and development, training is accessible to you.

Yes. Online training is available to organisations and individuals anywhere in the world. In-person training is available across Australia. For international in-person delivery for NGOs, government programs, or partner organisations, contact us to discuss your context and logistics.

  • United States — Reach & Match is approved by the U.S. Federal Quota Fund and distributed in partnership with the American Printing House for the Blind (APH), providing a funded purchasing pathway for schools supporting students with vision impairment and multiple disabilities.
  • Australia — Kits may be funded through NDIS plans, school funding, and kindergarten grants. We can provide funding justification letters to support procurement applications.

Shipping and Delivery

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. Reach & Match® ships internationally from Australia.

Delivery timeframes vary by destination. For an estimated timeframe for your country or region, contact us before ordering. We will confirm timing and any logistics considerations for your location.

International orders may be subject to import duties and taxes on arrival in your country. These charges are determined by your country’s customs authority and are not included in the listed price. We recommend checking your country’s import regulations for educational goods before ordering. If you need a commercial invoice or customs documentation, we will provide it.

Warranty, Returns and Refunds

Does Reach & Match® come with a warranty?

Yes. All Reach & Match® kits are covered by a 6-month warranty against manufacturing defects from the date of purchase. If your kit arrives with a defect in materials or workmanship, contact us and we will resolve it.

The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, fading from UV exposure, lost components, or damage resulting from misuse or improper storage.

As Reach & Match® kits are purpose-built, professionally manufactured educational products, we do not accept returns or offer refunds once an order has been dispatched, except in the case of a confirmed manufacturing defect covered under warranty.
